SLI The Sidney Ledson School | One of Toronto’s Best Private Schools for Preschool to Grade 6

About SLI

Nurturing the brilliance in every child.

Founded in 1980, SLI The Sidney Ledson School has evolved from the world-renowned early reading program created by educator and author Sidney Ledson into a distinguished elementary school serving students from Preschool to Grade 6.

Building on that legacy of literacy and critical thinking, SLI offers an enriched academic experience that nurtures growth across all disciplines. With small class sizes and caring teachers, children of every learning style and starting point discover their potential and advance with confidence — developing the curiosity and capability that define lifelong learners.

Children who join SLI grow into strong, capable thinkers with resilient learning habits. They develop the confidence to take on challenges and contests without fear of results, knowing their effort and perseverance are what truly matter. Many go on to achieve recognition at the national level they once thought beyond their reach — building confidence and character that last a lifetime.

Academic Foundations

Early reading and numeracy begin in Pre-K to establish strong habits and joyful learning. As students advance, they build mastery in mathematics, language, and inquiry-based science.

Small class sizes allow teachers to guide each child’s learning at an individualized pace, ensuring consistent progress and confidence.

Coding begins in Kindergarten, nurturing logical reasoning and creative thinking from an early age.

Strong writing and communication skills are cultivated across all subjects to build clear, articulate thinkers.

The Right Fit

SLI offers an inclusive, inspiring environment where motivated learners thrive — and where developing students become advanced ones through guidance, structure, and enrichment.

Each student benefits from personalized pacing within a supportive, growth-minded setting that values curiosity and perseverance.

From kindergarten, entrepreneurship encourages initiative, leadership, and creative problem-solving.

Older students participate in experiences such as Model UN, engineering projects, and science fairs that build analytical thinking and presentation skills.

Beyond the Classroom

The House League program builds leadership, teamwork, and a shared sense of community through friendly, values-based competition.

Arts, writing, and leadership projects help students develop voice, confidence, and collaboration.

Outdoor learning beside the scenic Betty Sutherland Trail connects academics with exploration and well-being.
